What Are AI-Optimized Profile Descriptions?
AI-optimized profiles are Clutch profiles whose description is generated from your verified reviews and profile data for increased AI visibility.
What's changing about my profile description?
The description at the top of your Clutch profile is becoming a Clutch-written summary optimized for AI visibility. It is based on your verified review content and the information already on your profile. You'll no longer edit the description text directly. Instead, it's generated from your profile data (such as the reviews your clients provide and the information about your team you share), plus key inputs you provide (if you’re a paid provider). Your reviews, rankings, and the rest of your profile are completely unchanged.
How is my profile description generated?
Your description is generated from your Clutch profile data. It draws on what you and your clients have already contributed: your verified reviews, your service lines and focus areas, the industries and clients you work with, and other facts about your company.
Verified reviews carry the most weight. When your profile has verified reviews, the description draws on what your clients said about the work you delivered for them. When your profile has few or no verified reviews, there is less data generated by your clients available, so the description relies more heavily on the structured details of your profile, such as your services, focus areas, industries, and clients.
This is why two profiles offering the same services can produce different descriptions. The output reflects how much information is available to generate from.
Why is Clutch writing my description instead of me?
Buyers — and the AI tools they increasingly use to hire B2B agencies — put more trust in a third-party description than in self-written marketing copy. Because it's built from verified reviews and profile data, the generated description can also describe more accurately what you do, who benefits most from your services, and what outcomes clients can expect.
Can I edit the description text myself?
No — and that's deliberate. The moment the text is self-edited, it stops being a third-party description and loses the credibility that makes it work. You still have five levers over its content, in rough order of impact: verified reviews (the single most effective thing you can do), your key inputs, your service lines / focus areas / industries / clients, industry recognitions, and About the Team (especially "Our story" and "What sets us apart"). If your description says something factually wrong, inform us and our editorial team will review it and make changes on your behalf.
What if something in my description is factually inaccurate?
If your description says something factually wrong, inform us and we will correct it. Descriptions are built only from your profile data and verified reviews, which keeps inaccuracies rare.
How do I influence what my description says?
Two ways matter most. First, recent verified reviews — the more you have, the more your description is built from what your clients actually said about your work. Second, your key inputs: three to five fields where you tell Clutch the points you most want reflected (e.g., "Family owned since 2011," "9x Inc 5000 fastest growing"). Key inputs can be edited in your Vendor Dashboard under the “Edit Profile” tab. Beyond that, keep your service lines, focus areas, industries, clients, recognitions, and About the Team current.
When does this launch, and how do I prepare?
The feature goes live in early October. To get the best possible description at launch: ask recent clients for verified reviews, confirm your service lines, focus areas, industries, and clients are current, add any industry recognitions you've earned, and fill in About the Team — especially "Our story" and "What sets us apart."
What does the Regenerate button on The Vendor Dashboard do?
Clicking regenerate re-runs the AI with your current profile data and key points, and gives you fresh options to choose from. It's how you refresh your description after updating your profile or adding key points. Important: it's not an "undo" — each regeneration produces new versions rather than restoring a previous one, so review your options before publishing.
Why is regeneration limited?
You can regenerate up to 5 times per quarter, resetting each quarter. Consistency is actually the point: AI tools reward a stable description they encounter repeatedly, so constant rewrites work against your visibility. The limit protects the value of the description — for you.
Will Clutch change my description automatically?
For paid profiles, if your description has sat dormant for a period of several months, Clutch may trigger an automated regeneration to ensure the description reflects the most recent updates to your profile (such as new reviews). If you do not wish for Clutch to do this, be sure to turn off the “auto-regenerate” toggle in your Vendor Dashboard, under the “Edit Profile” tab.
What happens to the description I already wrote?
Your previous description is replaced by the Clutch-generated one. Concrete facts from it, such as founding year, named services, locations, may inform the new description depending on your profile, so that work isn't lost. If something important didn't carry over, use your key points to bring it back.
I keep one consistent description across my website, G2, and other platforms. Won't a different version on Clutch hurt that?
The description is built to reinforce, not contradict, your existing positioning — it's grounded in the same facts about your business, stated in a neutral third-party voice. Independent corroboration of your canonical messaging is generally a stronger citation signal than one more copy of the same self-written blurb. Use key points to make sure your core positioning language is reflected.
What do free vs. paid providers get?
All providers get a Clutch-generated description built from their profile data, and every provider can improve it by completing their profile and collecting verified reviews. Clutch Verified providers and advertisers additionally get the opportunity to insert key points as well as the ability to regenerate their descriptions up to 5 times per quarter.
