What Are Fake Reviews and How Does Clutch Address Them?
A fake (or falsified) review is any review left by someone impersonating another person or by someone who does not have a legitimate client–provider relationship with the company being reviewed.
Clutch works hard to remove fake reviews so buyers can make confident, informed decisions when choosing a service provider.
Examples of Fake Reviews
-
- Reviews submitted in exchange for favors or money
- Reviews for projects that never occurred
- Reviews with an undisclosed conflict of interest
- Misrepresentation or impersonation of a reviewer’s identity
How Clutch Handles Fake Reviews
-
- Reviews that do not represent an authentic business relationship will not be published.
- If we later discover that a published review violates our Review Guidelines, it will be removed from the site.
- Reviews go through our verification process to help ensure authenticity and accuracy.
- When providers are found to be intentionally posting fake or falsified reviews, Clutch penalizes them — which may affect their profile visibility and reputation on our platform.
